The Contemporary Fiction Book Group will be reading and discussing A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, on February 19, 2019. from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Field Library Gallery.

Bestselling author John Irving turns to matters of faith and fate in A Prayer for Owen Meany.  Two young boys are playing baseball; one hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother.  Owen Meany, the one who hit the ball, doesn't believe in accidents, so he is convinced he is the instrument of God.  The son of the dead woman becomes Owen's acolyte and devoted follower, and the two of them wend their way through 1960's America, facing the Kennedy assassination and the Vietnam War through their own unique perspective.

Copies of the book will be available to be checked out at the Circulation Desk.
