Field Notes Book Group

Saturday, September 15, 2018 - 11:00am

Join the Field Notes Book Group on Saturday, September 15, from 11 to 12:30 at The Field Library Gallery for coffee, snacks and a lively discussion of this month's book, The Feather Thief: Beauty, Obsession, and the Natural History Heist of the Century, by Kirk Wallace Johnson.  Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk.

The Feather Thief is a fascinating nonfiction book about the most bizarre theft imaginable: a young flautist steals irreplaceable specimens of rare birds from the British Museum in order to use their feathers to make fly lures for collectors.  And why was he doing that?  To make money to buy a new flute.  This is the kind of story you wouldn't believe if a novelist told it, but it's actually true, and written like a thriller.  Join us to read and discuss one of the year's top nonfiction books.
