The Kinship of Secrets is a novel set partly in Korea and partly in the United States, as a family escapes Korea to America shortly before the war, leaving behind their infant daughter. The Korean War ensues and the separation which should have been temporary, stretches on and on. The Korean daughter, Inja, grows up with only a shadowy sense of her parents and sister, and the American daughter, Maran, is always aware of the existence of her missing sister. The story is told in alternating perspectives as the family tries to figure out how, and if, they can all be reunited.
Join us for a lively discussion of the effects of war and separation on one family, with coffee and refreshments provided as usual.
