April is Poetry Month at The Field Library

SLAM POETRY

A big celebration in honor of National Poetry Month and National Library Week is happening at The Field Library and in Peekskill schools on Wednesday, April 18th. At 3:30 p.m., poet Marc Kelly Smith, the inventor of Slam Poetry, will present a slam poetry performance for all ages at The Field Library. The public is invited to attend this free performance on April 18th to help observe National Library Week, April 15-21. Earlier in the day, he will conduct workshops for students at Peekskill High School and Middle School. Also on April 18th, Peekskill High School will have a Poetry Café, hosted by librarian Judy Kaplan, for students to read their own poetry. Another exciting poetry feature for April is the April 29th performance of Mayhem Poets at the Paramount Center for the Arts. Peekskill High School poets will get to attend, with funding provided by the Peekskill Rotary Club.

Marc Smith is visiting Westchester at the invitation of Eric Zork Allen, the host of Poetry Slams at the White Plains Barnes & Noble, the White Plains Public Library, and Yonkers Public Library. For more information on “Zork’s” poetry venues, please visit the website www.stolensnapshots.com, and for more information on Marc Kelly Smith go to www.slampapi.com.
