Contemporary Fiction Book Group
The Contemporary Fiction Book Group will be reading and discussing Women Talking by Miriam Towes on November 12, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Field Library Gallery.
The novel, based on a true incident, involves a group of Mennonite women meeting to discuss their options after they discover they, and many of their daughters, were not, in fact, raped by demons for their sins over the last two years but drugged and raped by men in their own community. Isolated, illiterate, unable to communicate in the language of the surrounding country, the women take the opportunity when the men of their community are away, arranging bail for the rapists, to determine what they should do, now that they know the truth.
Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.
