Contemporary Fiction Book Group

Tuesday, April 14, 2020 - 10:00am to 12:00pm

The Contemporary Fiction Book Group will meet in The Field Library Gallery to discuss Ann Patchett's Bel Canto from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Bel Canto, Patchett's award-winning novel, puts readers in the midst of a hostage crisis in an unnamed South American country, when the president's elaborate birthday party, to be capped by the performance of a renowned opera singer, is interrupted by a group of terrorists invading the scene.  The book is not a thriller, but a study of how the disparate people, the guests and terrorists, the stars and unknown people, find themselves bonding and building different relationships over the period of the crisis.

Join us for scintillating discussion of a terrific novel.
