Field Notes Book Group

Saturday, December 21, 2019 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Join the Field Notes Book Group on Saturday, December 21, from 11 to 12:30 at the Teen Zone in the Field Library for coffee, snacks and a lively discussion of this month's book, My Sister, the Serial Killer, by Oyinkan Brathwaite.  Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk.

My Sister, the Serial Killer is a short, very dark and warped novel, set in Nigeria, narrated by Korede, the good older daughter of the family.  She's a respectable nurse, working in a hospital, which is handy because her job gives her the skills she needs to clean up when she gets a call from her beautiful younger sister, Ayoola, announcing that she's killed yet another boyfriend.  At the beginning of the book, Ayoola has just killed her third boyfriend, which, Korede observes, makes her a serial killer.  Korede has been cleaning up all evidence of her sister's crimes and preventing Ayoola from doing dangerous things like posting happy pictures on instagram when she's supposed to be mourning her lost boyfriend. However, Korede's getting tired of her sister's selfishness and thoughtlessness, and when Ayoola turns her sights onto a doctor Korede's got a crush on, Korede has to do some serious thinking about how far she's willing to go.

Coffee and refreshments will be available. Join us for what promises to be an interesting discussion.
