Field Notes Book Group

Saturday, February 15, 2020 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Join the Field Notes Book Group on Saturday, February 15, from 11 to 12:30 at the Teen Zone in the Field Library for coffee, snacks and a lively discussion of this month's book, The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. The book will be available at the Circulation Desk.

This historical novel, set in the early 19th century, follows the entwined lives of Handful (a/k/a Hetty), a slave girl, and Sarah Grimke, the young woman to whom Handful is given as a handmaid.  Over the course of 30 years together, both Sarah and Handful strain against the restrictions placed on them due to their gender and race.  Their difficult and complicated relationship helps shape both of them, leading Sarah to take her place in the forefront of the abolition and suffrage movements.

Come join us for coffee, snacks and what promises to be an invigorating discussion.
