Guarding Our Elders: A Presentation in honor of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Guarding Our Elders: Combating Fraud, Abuse, and Injustice that Impacts Older Adults. This webinar is in honor of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Older adults need to be vigilant in protecting themselves against potential abuse, even more so since the Pandemic hit. This webinar will begin with remarks from Gary Brown, Esq. of the New York State Office of the Attorney General. Gary will alert listeners to potential abuse and fraud from people they do not know (“stranger danger” scams), including the latest Coronavirus scams. Jamie Fair, Esq. of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office will then cover potential abuse from friends, family, and others you trust. She will address “grandparent scams,” and their recent evolution in targeting the senior community. Roberta Goodman, Esq. of the Pace Women’s Justice Center will conclude the program with suggestions to identify mistreatment and resources to protect oneself.
This webinar is a project of The Senior Law Day Collaborative, in partnership with Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services and the Westchester Public Private Partnership for Aging Services. The Collaborative would like to thank our expert members and partners, who are making this presentation possible. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is held annually on June 15th as an International UN observance, recognizing that abuse of the elderly is an increasing and serious problem as longevity increases.
